My new babies... [Nov. 30th, 2008|04:37 pm]
The place to be for animal - maniacs

I got four New Guinea Spiny Stick insects today. (Eurycantha calcarata)
Actually I got 2,2. The interesting thing is that they can have a variety of colours from dark brown to green. I have 1,1 in dark brown and 1,1 in brown and green.
The guy who sold them to me said that they are more or less adult by now. He thinks that they could maybe go through one more moulting. After reaching adult age they are supposed to live for about a year... but I learned that you´ll have to see. My leaf insects were supposed to live for 6 months and I have two girls who are in adult state for a year at least now.
Females reach about 15 cm and males about 12 cm.
Standards in food, heat and humidity aren´t much different from those of my leaf insects.

And at this point I think I´ll make the "insect cut".. so the insect - phobics won´t complaine about giant crawlers on their friends page...

Yep, they are. And - honestly - they even remind me of kittens because I already have some scratches from their little spiked feet. *haha
